"Bulgaria? More like Blackpool!"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The holiday I booked was for 2 adults and 3 children. The third bed was a broken 'put-u-up' in the bedroom. This was not fixed! The room was 'cleaned' daily - ie the bins were emptied and beds made - our double bed was changed once while the three children's beds were not changed at all. Not enough towels either - 5 people 3 towels. The hotel catered for German guests - who wants hot dogs for breakfast? The staff often served German guests before me. The room was cool enough, only because we kept the balcony door open all the time. The balconies are much too small - no space for a table, and only just enough room for 2 to sit - not good if want to play cards etc with the children

"Zefir Beach Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Hotel Zefir is situated close to the sand dunes of Sunny Beach. The beach is a 2 min walk from the main entrance.
A land train stops outside the main entrance, and will take you to Sunny Beach for 2lv per person each way.
If you take a short walk past the Hotel Kotva you will find another land train waiting to take you to old Nessebar, again this is 2lv per person each way.
The hotel is in it's own mini resort within a resort. Within a short walk are other hotels, supermarkets, pharmacists, bars, and shops selling gifts.
If you don't feel well you are well advised to visit the pharmacist. They are very helpful and are allowed to prescribe anti-biotics. All the hotels advertise that they have their own doctors on site.
The weather was generally hot and sunny, although we did see 2 thunder storms in the week we were there. These only lasted for about 15 mins.
The hotel rooms were good, and seem to be recently refurnished. They have satelite TV and a fridge in each room. The balconies are a little small. Unfortunately the rooms do not have air conditioning, but the doors are fitted with fly screens.
We had a great time and would certainly recommend Bulgaria, Sunny Beach and the Hotel Zefir. The people are friendly, everything is nice and cheap, and the weather was sunny.

"Zefir Beach Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Yes, we are just back and had to post our review. We had a fantastic time, lovely hotel, great location.
Zefir is just on the outskirts of Sunny Beach, almost in Nessebar, so it was quieter and more laid back. We were B and B and to be honest, the food wasn't worth getting up early for. Food was catering for the German clients, about 90% of the clientele, during world cup week, so things were quite lively. Note - only tea in the restaurant was fruit tea, so take your Tetley if you want a real cuppa. On this subject, in a cafe you should ask for a large tea, with cold milk, it will come in a glass, half filled with boiling water, and a little sealed carton of milk, which is charged extra, about tuppence! Karolina's restaurant about 2 minutes from the hotel had the best food in the area, meal for 2, 2 bottles of wine, approximately £11. Could't buy it for that at home. The room was cleaned daily and bedding and towels changed regularly. A big bonus was having a fridge in the room, handy for the beer and cokes. Staff were still working well into the afternoon so long lies were not interrupted. Note - hotel should have tables on the tiny balconies, we used the bin from the toilet upside down, and it was left outside for the duration of our holiday, the cleaners never tried to relocate it back where it came from, nice ladies.
Took a few trips into the Big Town, and were really glad our hotel was where it was, the place was jumping, but you could still find seats in the bars and restaurants, and prices were comparable with where we were. Never saw bears, monkeys, or pickpockets, the odd gypsy woman with child (one we saw had an empty blanket and she sat on the pavement outside Karolina's for 3 hours). We did have older gypsy ladies on the grass outside the hotel knitting and crocheting table covers and ladies tops etc., their work was amazing but they never harrassed anyone to buy.
Took one trip to Khans Tent. If you remember Sunday Night at the London Paladium from the 60's, this was it. We thought we were going to a Bulgarian culture night, the band sang 60's stuff in ";English"; and the floor show consisted of jugglers, can can girls, line dancers, plate twirlers, a contortionist, and juggler.Intend to return next September, not to Zefir as it was a wee bit too far from things, but somewhere in between, almost came home in profit it was so cheap. Hopefully they decline the Euro which was what sent us to Bulgaria in the first place, it is pricing us out of the market for the Costa's and Greece.

"Zefir Beach Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Read lots of horror stories about the flights and Bourgas airport but thankfully was very surprised! The flight was good and no problem with the airport. Arrived in Bulgaria very late at night, with the coach waiting to take us to our hotel and it all happened very efficiently and quickly. Arrived at the hotel and our room was on the 4th (top) floor over looking the beautifully lit swimming pools and grounds, the room was very clean and a lovely bathroom.
The downside to this hotel is the horrendous food - If you don't recognise it - don't eat it! Or the eggs!! My Partner ended up with salmonella poisoning from the eggs. If you can do room only then do. If you have ice be prepared to have it picked up by the waitresses fingers and dropped in your glass!! Take ear plugs as the bar can be noisy until 5am, luckily we had some!!
It is so cheap to eat out and the meals we had were good. Many lovely places to eat and relax in Sunny Beach.
Be prepared to see 2 bears roaming the streets with the gypsies, it is an horrendous sight to see 2 beautiful creatures being used in this way. Their claws and teeth have been ripped out and they have a ring going through their noses with chains, don't give them any money. We complained bitterly at the hotel about this, but they shrugged their shoulders!
If you change any money only do it at the kiosks with a Gold crown on top, or at your hotel, we saw people being ripped off at unofficial change kiosks. You've been warned!!!
We did a trip to Istanbul which was very good but an awful long time on an uncomfortable coach. The trip was very exhausting but Istanbul was an amazing place and the food at the hotel was good.
All in all as long as you are prepared to see drugged children being carried by beggars for money and children as young as 5 playing the accordian at 10 pm - you will have a reasonable time. All the designer stuff is fake but good quality and very cheap and barter. 8 levas for a qiksilver t - shirt.
The sun shone all the while we were there. They say it never goes above 30 deg but it does.
Have a good one!!

"Zefir Beach Hotel review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
this hotel is clean but basic. rooms which are'nt very big with not much closet space. the hotel is situated outside of sunny beach but can easily be reached by taxi, or cheaper by mini train, just outside the hotel. there is a range of restraunts and shops a short walk from the hotel, also a crazy golf. at night there are donkey rides for kids, bouncy castles, also some stalls selling jewellery ect, and street artists that do portraits at very reasonable prices compared to other holiday destinations.
the hotel pool was vey good and clean also a kids pool with fountain. the breakfast at the hotel was very varied but did seem to cater for the germans tastes, which there are plenty of in this resort. the beach is very good and clean and a short walk from behind the hotel.
the location of this hotel is also in easy reach of nessabar which is well worth a visit. the water park is very good and can be reached on a free bus from the centre of sunny beach. we went on trips to zosopol which is nice and varna. we really enjoyed our holiday and would go back to bulgaria which is very cheap, only spent about £700, between 3 of us in a fortnight with plenty of food and drink, trips and usual shopping for presents.
