we got delayed on the plane and were really tired couldnt wait to get into our rooms and go to sleep for a little while. pulled up outside the roussos beach hotel and omg it was like holiday from hell,

the hotel was all rusty, we fought it was going to be better inside, but when we got there it was all dark the recpionist was very ignorant, we got the key opened the door we were on the top floor (fifth) with a baby the balcony was wobberly having only 2 bolts on 1 side and 6 on the next, there were holes in the towels, me and my sister went to look around and even asked someone if this was the right hotel because we just couldnt believe it but unforntetly it was. what happened was that we booked the new hotel next door to stay in but they gave us the older one which is closing in october.

we complained and stayed there for 2 nights and they transferred us into a hotel in Protaras which was absolutly lovely and out of this world so we had a result in the end, but i wouldnt recommend the roussous beach hotel to anybody.

Arrived July 27th 2005. Had booked 1 bedroom apartment. Had to change because dirty and dark and very small. Could only have studio. Much better as bigger and cleaner than 1 bed room.

Only 1 building now in use in this hotel. The hotel has been sold and the bungalows and new building are not in use. Hotel sold last October and will be closing October 2005. All entertainment was cancelled last year for this season and thus there is no entertainment as advertised in brochure. There is also no tennis court (demolished), and the play area for children consists of games machines inside the main building for which you have to pay. There is nothing for very young children to do.

The main restaurant is closed. All meals are eaten outside by the pool bar. Take plenty of mosquito repellent as people, including my husband, were eaten alive around their legs while eating in the evening time. Food is disgusting for evening meal. Always the same and worse than a canteen with 5 tins of food from which you help yourself. There is no selection suitable for children and we had to take our son out several times in the evening to get him something to eat. We were all inclusive and so had limited funds and had to eat mainly in the hotel.

The beach across the road is average. It is quite dirty but the sun beds are good value at £1 + umbrella.

The pub next door to the hotel is good value and does excellent food. The Sunday roast is very good. There are several restaurants in the area all offering set menus with 3 course meal for around £5. Shops are also very cheap with several £1 shops where everything costs a £1. There is a McDonalds, KFC and pizza hut very close as well.

The only building in use is the main building which is old and in need of repair. The advertised bungalows and new building are not in use and thus the hotel is only really 1/4 full.

The swimming pools are not cleaned regularly and the one furthest away from the main building is very cloudy and I would not let my son swim in it. There are plenty of sun loungers but they are a bit dirty and the sunshades are rusty and very old looking. The grounds are kept nice but this is because there are always people coming into the hotel to view the properties at the big in a view to buying them.

All I can say is that if you booked this holiday like us expecting a basic but clean room, evening entertainment and passable food then you will be very disappointed. No holiday company should be sending guests here if they have not informed them that there is no longer many of the facilities available that were advertised in the brochure. I would say if you have young children and like entertainment in your hotel then please contact your holiday company and ask to change to another hotel. We found out too late as we had already arrived and could not change hotels as all others were fully booked.

Really enjoyed Cyprus. Limmassol is very touristy, not very pretty, but we got a car and drove around the island, really loved it. Roussos Beach was very, very basic, old part of complex very shabby but extremely clean - maid came in every day, never saw one creepy crawlie. Pools and gardens lovely and Staff wonderfully friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Road very busy and noisy but views great! Do explore the Troodos Mountains and Paphos. For food, try the Old Fox (turn left out of the hotel)- WONDERFUL fresh food and great friendly service - supervised by Demetriou in the evenings. Same could be said for most local restaurants (avoided Irish and English pubs) so do try Charade and Fiesta too.

Came away with wonderful memories.

this holiday was to be a winter escape for a week. it was a late teletext type jobbie and after being offered other accomodation we selected the roussos beach because it seemed to be the best of the accomodation on offer.
given that it was the end of feb when we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised at the temperatures that greeted us, 20c plus every day. not warm enough for a dip in the pool but a sight better than the frosts we left behind in blighty!

anyway , the hotel is located in the touristy area to the east of limassol, it is on the sea front directly opposite the beach on a sometimes busy dual-cariageway type road. if your in the main building at the front you will hear some noise from the road at the front.

the word beach is also used loosely, its hopeless!

we found the hotel to be a bit basic, but then it is not the most expensive place on the island!, the rooms are very basic, with only the bare essentials catered for but we found them to be ok and they were clean.
they were cleaned daily.

i am certain that in a busier period the pools and gardens would be great.
there are loads of bars and restaurants locally , because of the time of year we visited many were shut, however i think our favourite was REBECCAS. you will find this eating place by turning left out of the front door of the hotel, and just following your nose along the coastal road for about 1/2 a mile, it is on the left just past the agip petrol garage. we were very impressed by the food quality/service and prices, it really was excellent.
another recommended eatery is the fiesta, well worth crossing the road for opposite macdonalds. try the sirloin steak as part of the set menu, i guarantee you will not be dissapointed!

to be honest , other than the touristy area, which was knee deep in shops selling the same sort of stuff we were not particularly impressed with limassol, maybe it was just us, and i am certain that in summer it would be better, its just that we had a car for the week and sort of decided that if we were to return to cyprus we would propably go to one of the other resorts that we visited.

paphos or protaros,( watch out for the scratch card kids in paphos) say no and keep walking!!
nicosia is worth the effort, if only to see the green line!, i found it to be quite fascinating.
oh costas, the karaoke king in the roussos, cyprus's answer to robbie williams can go on a bit into the wee small hours, so be prepared to lie in bed listening to angels one more time!!

overall the hotel is a bit bargain basement, but it is pretty central, clean and is generally speaking ok.
