"Great base for a family holiday"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

This lovely little clean gem is a great base for a family hotel, dont be put off by other reviews this place is basic (as with all cypriot hotels) but it is clean and the staff are very friendly. Food, drink and entertainment are not a concern as everything you will need is in the surrounding resort! Also you get to see the magic waters light show every night for free from your balcony!!!

"A good family holiday"

Overall Hotel Rating:

Open quote

My part consisted of 6 family member, 4 adults and 2 small children staying in two separate suites on the ground floor. Ours faced the road but we suffered no noise, and my daughters room was at the rear, which was even quieter for small children to sleep.

Many have spoken about Costos and his wife in the adjacent and separate restaurant, but we found they had moved on and the bar was shut and the place served basic food cooked in the Beach Hotel oposite and ferried across. We did not eat there. The place has spacious rooms and the air conditioning, which is expensive as an extra, is good at keeping the temperatures to a livable level. The accomodation is basic but we had no complaints, and our cleaner was efficient at her work and made our beds daily. One critisism is the colour of the woodwork. Maroon on white undercoat is a grafiti experts dream, and scratches show badly. Unfortunately, some little 'experts' had done this to the doors in the corridor, and it needs repainting in something different.

The room furniture in a 4 people suit is excellent and more than enough to live in. Only expect 4 utensils of everything, cups, saucers etc, and the cooker comprises of a 2 ring electric plate only. A microwave, kettle and toaster is also provided. The fridge was more than adequate and excellent at producing ice cubes. A good point is the TV in all rooms with the BBC World Service, so you can keep up with news from home. No need to buy English papers. The bathroom was decent and a full sized bath served our needs, but we could have done with a longer shower curtain. We didn't bother with the hot tap, which can be scalding, as the cold was anything but, and we followed American practice of taking cool showers, which is perfect for the temperatures in August.

Some have also criticised the unfriendly woman on the desk, but our reception staff were helpful and very friendly. Paul was very nice and friendly, with a smile and cheery word.

All in all, we were happy, the pool was clean and water managed, and there were plenty of loungers for the folk there. Some of the Tsokkos Hotel chain workers also use the facilities as they live in the Protaras Hotel oposite, but this caused no problems whatsoever. (Look on the ground floor of that hotel, and where there should be a reception is a laundry 'sweatshop' serving the whole company hotel needs. We heard no noises or disturbance from this, even though we were on the ground floor.)

Would I recommend this Apartment Hotel? Yes I would, it is well placed for everything. if you want luxury and 5* living, find somewhere else. We were happy enough.

Have just returned from protaras and was very dissapointed with the tropical dreams apartments.Very good resort but spend a few more pounds and stay somewhere else in the resort !!!!!!!!!! Having read the reviews about this place , I thought it would be ok ? But this was not the case !!!! Booked through thomas cook (£2400) for three adults . On arrival we were given the room key, only to find it was a studio and not a one bedroom apartment which we had booked.Which was sorted out within half an hour saftey deposit boxes are situated in the reception area at a cost of 10 euro per week air con for studios are 5 euros per day(x1 air con unit) air con for 1 bed apartments are 8 euros per day (x2 air con units) on the second day we returned to our room to find no electricity ,which was reported to reception and sorted within 2 hours (both air con units on at the same time was too much for the system ) was stated in the brochure that there was a poolside snack bar and restaraunt which was not the case and had not been all season. It was there but only served drinks and no food(was told the rent was put up and the tenant was not willing to pay the increase ) the pool area was spacious but never tidied up from one day to the next . Forty four sunbeds around pool area, and fiftey four rooms in the apartments ??????????????????? Not enough beds???????????????????? I have got nothing against people from other countries but dont expect alot of british people here !!!!! Across the road from the apartments is an old hotel which appears to be leased to the workers of the tsokkos hotel chain and when not on shift appear to use the pool . We only saw the rep from thomas cook at the welcome meeting(at the tsokkos beach hotel) and was not very helpful. To sum it up protaras is a great resort but the tropical dreams is very poor this is the poor relation in the tsokkos chain of hotels £2400 is alot of money to spend for a self catering holiday and end up in a place like this.

The hotel is family run and although they are very friendly, I would not go to the Appartments again. The price I paid with Thomas Cook, could have nearly paid for an all inclusive holiday in the Caribbean. I am sure that the family do their best with the measly amount of money they receive from Thomas Cook, who are money grabbing so and so's. The appartments are spacious, with a tv, that has no English channels and unless you speak Cypriot, what is the point of that? One evening a week would show some repeats of English programmes. But who goes on holiday to watch t.v? Its nice to have there when you are having a bit of relaxing time. The kitchen facilities were not bad, although no washing up liquid or cloth were provided, so had to go and buy these from the shop. Wherever I have been before, these have been provided. Two ring electric hob, kettle and microwave are also available. The furniture in the lounge area is very dated and not very comfortable. Balcony was spacious, although seeing as the appartment should have been for 4 people, would have been a bit of a squeeze! Bedroom consisted of two single beds, which although not the best, were pretty comfortable. The pool area was good, with sufficient sunbeds and pool of a decent size. The pool bar was also good, with a choice of snacks, breakfasts and evening meals, at a reasonable price. The tennis court has seen better days and when we used the rackets, one was broken and not really fit for the purpose. The corridors and lift doors of the hotel, although clean, were covered in graffiti, which I have never seen in a hotel abroad before and would certainly recommend a few licks of paint! The hotel is not very secure and the emergency exit door at the back of the hotel is left open until about 10am at night. A 2foot wall surrounds the hotel, which at the rear backs onto a large area of wasteground, anyone could get into the appartments and have access to the rooms without passing through reception, although no incidents occurred during our stay. The appartments are a two minute walk from the beach, which was very convenient, but is not on the main part of Fig Tree bay, if this is what you want, this is a 10-15 minute walk away.

Returned on the 1st July after 2 weeks wonderful holiday.

Our first trip to Cyprus and its left a good impression. The accommodation was spotless, rooms cleaned every day except Sundays. We had a studio and the A/C charge was reasonable at C£2.75 for 24 hours and optional, we chose it the second week due to freaky really hot weather. The resort was good with many restaurants and bars along the Strip and needless to say the food was good too.At our accommodation the manager of the restaurant Costas and his wife Naddia produced very good meals and free fruit and soft drinks around the pool.We also found that a few trips to the gorgeous beach always had a lovely breeze .

All in all we really enjoyed it and may consider a return trip. The only downside we noticed was the lack of Greek/Cypriot lifestyle, with everything geared to the English way of life.

We last went to Protaras 9 years ago and boy has it changed, its got bigger and much better we think.
The Tropical dreams apartments are situated on a side street just off the top of the main strip, just 4 mins to the sea and 3 mins to the strip. We had a 1 bedroom apartment situated at the front, it was very spacious with the main room containing a bed setee, dining table and 4 chairs, coffee table and 2 easy chairs with a balcony with table and chairs. The kitchen had everything you would need, toaster, electric kettle, all pots and pans and cutlery. The bedroom had a double bed with dressing table and plenty of wardrobe and storage space. It was spotlessly cleaned every day, and bed linen changed. At first we did not purchase air conditioning (£5 per night)and kept the windows and doors open but there was a lot of noise from the street outside in the early hours so once we had air con we kept the windows and doors close and it was then silent.

We are used to going to Greek islands where all the apartments seem to be positioned round the pool and bar but at the Tropical dreams the pool was at the side and only about 6 apartments overlooked it plus the snack bar and bar were situated on an elevation and did not overlook the pool that was the only thing that let it down.
Everybody was very friendly and the complete place was kept very clean and tidy.

We found Protaras very expensive, what people forget is that everything is priced like england ( eg.£5) BUT the £ is cypriot pounds and is realy about £6.10p in sterling. We were spending about £40 (Cypriot pounds) for a 3 course meal inc. wine for 2, it was about the same in most restrauents, apart from Mc.Donalds and Pizza hut. We hired a car (on the internet) before we went and toured around.

all in all we had a great time and wouls certainly consider Tropical dreams if we returned.

Our first holiday to Cyprus and we couldnt have found a better resort or apartments. The Tropical Dreams are run by a fab guy who constantly brings out refreshing melon and cold drinks if you sunbathe around the pool. We had a few meals at the apartments restaurant, which were excellent. We tried pretty much every eating house in Protaras and never had a bad meal anywhere. Prices are fantastic!!!
Out apartments were large, airy and extremely clean. My sister had a problem with her toilet door lock, we mentioned it to reception, and within 10 minutes the maintainance guy had fixed it.

These apartments are brilliantly situtated. They are far enough away from the major nightlife to allow a good nights sleep, and just about 5 minutes easy stroll to the beach. Three small supermarkets opposite, and the bars, restaurants shops etc are about 5 mintues in the opposite direction.

Mildly annoying water fountain display thing next door (water jets jumping around to the sound of music)Starts at about 9pm and finshed around 11pm We sung ";the final countdown"; for weeks afterwards!! but wasnt really a problem (quite pretty actually as you can see a lot of it from the apartments windows (free!!!)

We have recommended both the resort and these apartments to another sister and her family. They booked this holiday as soon as we came home raving about the place!

We saw one cockroach and that was outside on the steps but very dead, we didnt see any other creepy crawlies.
Maid service was fab, loads of clean towels and bedding.
Reps arrived every day at the same time, were friendly and helpful.

We hired a car, went to Mount Olympus in the Trudos Mountaints, breathtaking views, but make sure you take something warm as the temperature really drops (from 33 to 17)
Easy to get lost whilst driving around - nearly ended up in the Turkish occupied North - bit scary expected to be arrested by the Army and thrown into prison indefinatley (midnight express!!!)

Overall - FANTASTIC place, BRILLIANT asparmtents, Christos is an amazing host who knows everyone by name - cant wait to go back.
