"Intercontinental Resort And Casino review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Intercontinental Hotel very nice and a few choices of restaurants, This is not a very large hotel and seems quite personal. We weren't bothered here regarding tips but beware of the prices in the shops. Don't buy any souvenirs here as the same things can be got at Hurghada Airport for less than half the price I paid. Also keep a note of what you use out of the minibar. They tried to charge us for extras which we didn't have. On departure we had to be out of our room by 12 but ourselves and two other coupes we got friendly with negotiated a rate to stay until 5.00pm. Be sure to confirm the extra charge for this as they tried to overcharge. The pool and the beach are excellent and wish we could have stayed longer but our multi-centre holiday didn't allow for this. The holiday started at the Intercontinental Hotel in Hurghada for 2 nights then bus convoy to pick up our Cruise ship from Luxor for a fantastic 7 night Nile cruise taking in all the sights including an internal flight to Abu Simbel (extra) Hot air balloon ride (extra)and then another flight to Cairo for two nights at the Intercontinental Hotel there. This was quite larger than the one in Hurghada and more impersonal but nevertheless it served its purpose being just down the road from the pyramids and sphinx. The Cairo museum was excellent but not enough time and the Bizarre was some experience. Glad to feel secure with armed bodyguards at the front and back of our party.
Back to the Interconintal in Hurghada again for the last two nights. Weather was hot with a wind coming from the sea but all in all a trip of a lifetime. Despite covering with mosiguard I got bitten 36 times but this started for most of us when we were on the boat. Convinced the people who had been on the camel ride brought sonmething back with them. Out of six people on our table five of us went down for a day but nothing serious.Having done the sights I would return to this hotel for lazy holiday in the sunshine and perhaps this part of town might be more interesting when all the building work is completed.
As in most of the reviews I have read take plenty of small change (English £s or Egyptian pounds as everywhere you go you have to tip. Cost me £2 just to go to the toilet as that's all the change I had.

"Intercontinental Resort And Casino review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
When arriving in Hurghada, it was mostly as expected, the airport a little primitive and arriving in the middle of the night with a young child never helps in the heat - hotter than anticipated on arrival in the night! The transfer from the airport was approx 50 mins to the Intercontinental.
Upon arriving the hotel looked nice, but not compared to other drop offs like the Seva Grand Beach from the outside. The reception and lobby area in the hotel are very nice with a 24 hour reception, a small mall of shops, a cafe, cash machine and chargeable internet use.
The rooms themselves are as is to be expected for a 5* hotel, nicely decorated, clean and spacious with the usual amenities and a nice balcony with table and chairs. 24 hour room service is available and highly recommended - great food - even swankier when they wheel a cloth covered table into the room! As with anything in Egypt, the waiters expect a tip - but ";baksheesh"; is to be expected everywhere in Egypt and although some can be aggressive, the Intercontinental staff were always very appriciative and friendly. The pool area was very clean and gorgeous - lots of sun beds but still a shortage at peak time - reserve them at breakfast with a towel. The breakfasts were amazing! Anything you could want and all of a really high standard and as a buffet it was great tasty and filling!
The private beach area was also a bonus - lots of sun beds with the pool bar waiting on the beach also they would bring drinks and snacks over or you could swim up to the bar or sit in a cafe area - nice food and drink with a good selection. Again bar staff very friendly and often give small freebies and had learned our order by the end of our 2 week stay! The private beach area was beautiful gorgeous white sand and as you would expect lovely blue warm sea. With the hotel having its own boat jetty, we took a catermaran boat trip which was good, although its advised not to book through your operator - much cheaper to do this with a local company - just be wary - we booked ours with a seller coming round the pool. There were daily water aerobics classes in a section of the huge pool and bellydancing every other day - both great fun! As for the club I dont think it was ever open and the casino was closed for renovation.
As for the location, the Intercontinental is just in walking distance of the centre of Hurghada however the hotel do run a free shuttle bus to local towns - but it is advised you do book this a few days in advance - it fills up quickly. The people staying at the hotel were mainly foreign, there seemed to be a distinct lack of fellow Englishmen, this wasnt necessarily bad just not really anyone to meet up with. All in all the hotel is of a very good standard with typical 5* amenities and services - very high standard. The hotel is further from the centre of the action than is desirable but if thats what your looking for then great further towards the centre the bars get much cheaper as the hotel bar is quite expensive and they use a room number system so you dont realise just how much your spending!
But all in all I would definately recommend the hotel great for couples and families - not for the young ones, the resort just isnt what your looking for. The resort is a little primitive as it is up and coming.
