"Nile Cruise"
Overall Resort Rating:
Plenty to see, you can see as much or as little as you want. Brilliant just for chilling out especially on board the boat. I would take the bit about buying your Egyptian visa in this country off your website, as I did this and then ended up paying again for another when I arrived in Egypt, costing me a further £10 each.

Overall Resort Rating:
The temples, the museum, the market are all a photographers paradise. The town is bustling and active. People are friendly and helpful. Dealing with traders trying to hassle you could be a problem to some but I didnt find it too bad. The temperature was 45o and you needed to take care and act sensibly.

"Luxor in November"
Overall Resort Rating:
A friend and I have just returned from a week in Luxor. The weather has been fantastic the whole time, 35 degrees and above every day. We enjoy walking but this is spoiled by the contant hassle from the calesh and taxi drivers, and along the corniche, the fellucas. Most of it is pretty good humoured but some are so persistant, following us along the road, or hounding us if we sat down in the shade for a moment and it does become very tiresome after a while. You do have to be aware of some of the tricks too such as "I work in your hotel, I carried your bags" or "I am the chef at your hotel and this is my father's taxi". They want to get you into their taxi, felluca, calesh etc so that they can take you to a shop or market where they will earn commission on anything you buy. We always asked these people which hotel it was and without fail it was the wrong one every time. We found a very reliable taxi driver through the Tutti Frutti cafe just along from the hotel and used him a couple of times including a trip to the Valley of the Kings with a very good guide also booked through the cafe. If you want to stock up on water, biscuits etc there's Arkwright's just along from the hotel or further on and turn left onto Medina Street there's Omar's Supermarket where you can get real bargains such as a Signal toothbrush for around 20p! Places to visit are the Luxor and Karnak temples which allow photography and the Mumification Museum which doesn't. This particular museum is more or less opposite the Luxor temple and is very impressive, with cool dark interior and everthing in temperature and humidity controlled cases, easy to see and very well described. It cost LE50 (around £5) to get in and was well worth it. The Luxor temple was also LE50 and the Luxor Museum LE80 again very good value. We walked to the Luxor Museum and wanted to go further along the corniche to the Karnak temple but the road is closed due to works so we had to go the long way round through the back streets. Very busy and lots of hassle but eventually found it and it was very worthwhile. However, we decided to take the easy way out and get a cab back which we haggled down to LE30 (about £3). Most of the taxis are very old and some look as though they shouldn't be on the road but there are also many new, clean and air conditioned ones around and these are very comfortable. A trip to the Valley of the Kings is a definite 'must do'. It costs the equivalent of around £6.50 to get in which includes entry into 3 tombs and you can also purchase tickets to other tombs including that of Tutenkhamen which is around £10. We also visited the temple of Hatshepsut which an amazing sight and the Collosus of Memnon just outside the Valley of the Kings. It's always a surprise when you see these ancient artifacts just by the side of the road and in many cases even in the museums you can actually touch the exhibits. Luxor is a good place to visit if you want to see these historical sights but not if you want exciting nightlife and don't like to be pestered. Also the noise level is very high almost constantly with the car horns going all the time. It was very strange to get back to England and not hear a single one.

"Mysterious and captivating, esp at night"
Overall Resort Rating:
Luxor is THE must see destination in Egypt, as soon as you arrive you are surrounded by the mystique of the place. Plenty to see and lots of museums. You can get across to the West Bank, where the Valley of the Kings and Queens is located, by taxi or you can use the ferry that the locals use. The ferry operators will tend to overcharge tourists but give them what you are prepared to pay and just walk past them to board the ferry and they will let you on. Be prepared to haggle to get the best deals, many of the locals will hassle tourists who look like an easy target, but just avoid eye contact if you don't wish to buy whatever they're selling. It is still a very pleasant and safe place to be and most locals are very friendly, in stark contrast to Cairo. The tourist police have a good presence here.
The resort itself is very family friendly. Best time to go is in winter, otherwise the heat is stifling. I also recommend a trip to Banana Island.

We were only based at Luxor through a cruise so didn't really get to see the real luxor just the temples that were on our prearranged trips. We did get pestered by street sellers/beggers each time we got off the minibus which was a bit of a pain but as long as you showed no interest they left you alone.

Overall Resort Rating:
Luxor is all about Karnak , Luxor Temple and the Valley of the Kings ,Queens and Nobles .But make an effort to go to the Artisan village , where the builders of the Valley of the Kings made their own mausaleums under their homes .The painting is absolutely stunning and better preserved than in the Valley of the Kings and shows pictures of everyday life like Hunting and Fishing .The son et Lumiere at Karnak with Richard Burton's voice is well worth going to too.

Overall Resort Rating:
Luxor isn't just about gazing at Pharoahs' tombs and temples to falcon-headed gods. Beyond the amazing ancient sights, this captivating city has much more up its sleeve.
Of course, sightseeing is central to most people's visits here. After all, Luxor is perfectly placed for visiting many of Egypt's show-stopping antiquities. Sitting on the east banks of the Nile, it's right opposite the incredible Valley of the Kings on the west bank and handy for the Temple of Karnak with its forest of pillars built by Ramses II. And clustered around are other mind-boggling treasures of a scale and grandeur that'll leave you breathless.
Once you've done the temples and tombs, Luxor have lots more going for them. With first-class hotels, relaxing in style comes easy here. Palm-fringed pools, views over the felucca-sprinkled Nile and sophisticated lounge bars provide perfect refuges from a hard day's sightseeing. And whatever you do, make sure you see Luxor's magnificent Temple, haggle for bargains in its lively bazaars and explore its amazing museums.

We did most of the sites whilst in Luxor. We visited Karnack Temple, Luxor Temple, Valley of the Kings and a few other historical sites.
We had a lovely horse and carriage ride on the evening that took us to the Sound and Light show at Karnack Temple, and got up early the following morning for a 50 minute hot air balloon ride followed by a boat trip down the Nile which was all magical!!

Overall Resort Rating:
This resort is just great you have to come back to see everything and things are so cheap but you have to haggle for what you want.Whatever they ask for quater it,but remember it is a poor country and they have to make a living and support a family too.I just look at the quality of what I want to buy and think how much its worth to me,if I like it and the price seems fare I will pay it anyway. There are quite a few good eaterys.John and johns inside gaddis hotel upstairs great for sunday roast,7 days 7 ways brill food and puddleducks, chez omar. If you really cant do without your english treats try arkewrights yes open all hours complete with bike.Try salt and bread up near the train station, its an egyptian place that caters for all, its clean no tummy bugs later and a three course meal for about £2.50 English. If you need more info on luxor and anything else to do with egypt the tourist office is just opposite the train station near salt and bread. Intend going to see the sights hire a taxi for the day haggle its cheap the driver will take you to ticket office and help you buy tickets if you dont speak arabic some places dont have english speaking people, at ticket office just say ramisis or what you want thats good enough. If you are two or more book your trips at jollys just along by the winter palace costs less for days out and ballon rides not as expensive as the hotel reps charge.

My daughter in her 30's and I in my 60's seized a last minute opportunity to visit Luxor. We didn't have much time to visit but feel that we had an excellent experience with reallifeegypt.co.uk We are intelligent, well travelled people who need and recognize value for money. I do not enjoy tours but found that the company provided excellent drivers and egyptologists just for us which made our vacation so happy. They even found a windy day to sail on the Nile 1/2 hour for lunch and then back as our time was short and I get seasick. We have not met the owners but their staff was outstanding.
Hopefuly we will come back to Egypt again

"History brought to life"
Overall Resort Rating:
Luxor has everything for the visitor interested in Egypt's ancient history. The temple at Luxor is amazing, as it the one at Karnak. The Valley of the Kings is a must, as is the Luxor museum which houses some of the treasures taken from Tutankhamun's tomb. The resort is on the banks of the Nile, which is pretty and relaxing to look at. Whilst it's not a very busy resort, there is plenty to see and do, and plenty of shops and places to eat.

"Luxor"
Overall Resort Rating:
Luxor caters for the tourists but as soon as you wander of the Nile front you can see how they really live, which is an eye opener. Very poor people, beggars everywhere. Even saw a mother with a baby in arms & a toddler running up to us, didn't want my money, wanted my mcdonalds coke. Tourist police verywhere. A lot of hassle from locals telling you they bake bread on your boat & will take you to the best place. He follows you but you end up going to his cousins shop where he says there will be no hassle, but there is. You have to be determined & not let the locals get to you. When shopping think what you would pay for an item in UK, continue to say no unless you get it for the price you're willing topay, they will always come down in price unless they are going to lose on the sale. Don't get chatting with locals if they come up to you appearing friendly, they have something in mind, ignore or say a firm NO, repeating it if need be, don't explain maybe later or pass the time of day or you're captured in their plan.

"Luxor"
Overall Resort Rating:
Luxor itself and most of Egypt is for those looking for history and culture. The market places of Luxor are great to go around and bargain, be sure your going to get ripped off! They will all approach you and ask for you to enter their store, they will give you tea, coke or whatever as hospitality. Then the bargaining begins... The valley of the kings and queen is not too far travel away, but is in the west bank. Luxor temple is very close by and is a must see. We went during very hot weather it hit 43 degrees C, so may not be for everyone.

"Great sights"
Overall Resort Rating:
Luxor is a magical place, you have so much to see! Of course you have the Temple of Luxor which is great, but you also have Karnak Temple which is stupendous. I would recommend doing a day trip(or two) to the Valley of the Kings on the Westbank. You will visit the Colossi of Memnon and a couple of temples too. The best part is the Valley of the Kings with fantastic tombs of the Pharaohs. The best know is of course Tutankhamen. Luxor like the rest of Egypt is covered with the people hassling you which gets very frustrating and puts you off enjoying some of the sights. Overall Luxor is a nice place but you won't want to venture outside for a stroll which is a shame as it is lovely.
