"Filoxenia Apartments Review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
THE BEST HOTEL IN MALIA! Just got back from a week here 21st june to the 28th june and i'm pining for it already, and this hotel played a big part in my enjoyment! There were 16 of us who went, 8 boys and 8 girls between the ages of 19 and 22, and 9 of that 16 stayed here, but the other spent most of the time at our hotel because it was far better than theirs. Probably should start with the negatives, because there were some, but none of them major and all outweighed by the positives. First of all the room was small considering there were 4 lads in it, 3 rooms including the toilet, and two of us were on sofabed things. 50 euro deposit per person on arrival. 50 euro fine for goin in the pool after 9pm. 25 euro charge to bring someone back to your room for the night, but thfact is u are allowed to, which is rare. One of the two security guards abit pushy, but ok if you treat him with respect. POSITIVES. we got are deposit back even though th room was left in a tip! dont bring any 'guests' back to ur room, th beach is about 2mins away with hundreds of sun loungers on it lol. and its a right laugh playin in th sea at 5am in th pitch black as wel, we used to nip home throw r swimshorts on n head down there, c who was about, n they didnt mind us comin in at lyk 7 covered in sand! manos, th other security guy, absolutely loved us, really sound, even let us go on his rounds with him one drunken night. the location is brillliant, just off the strip and just off th beach, which was totally unique, other hotels are either/or, or sometimes neither. english run, which kinda helps if youve got any problems. best bit was it had its own bar, and not lyk a hotel bar, a proper one lol! called bar fusion, did us loads of deals and was busy evry nght, started off there every night. and in th morinin does stuff lyk full english breakfasts for cheaper than most places. people were just flockin to our hotel coz it was so much better than theirs! couple of tips, th reps outside places will get on ur nerves, but u jus gotta ignore em, theyre not bothered if u jus walk off. plus with us bein such a big group we used t barter them right down. one night we were gettin 4f or 5 euroes on vodka mixtures, plus 2 free sambuca shots each, and 5 fishbowels between us, mental! even th quadbike place we even managed t get him down t 20 euroes for a quad for thewk, didnt get it in th end tho, no need coz everythins so close. might wanna watch out for quads an scooters as wel, loads drivin about, but not at night coz everyones drunk lol! loved malia, loved philoxenia, goin again next year and stayng here, simple as!

Arrived here at bout 9 in the morning but first impressions were pretty good. Found out when we tryed to get our room that 100 euros had to be left for all persons, but luckily one of us had a credit card so it went on that dint get charged for ote tho. first night went on the bar crawl but what a disapointment, most of the bars either shut or shutting early so just headed back to the hotel. My main thought on the bars clubs was really good, one of the main bars we headed for is orgasmic, reflexes and cheekys.
Would advise people not to jump in the pool at night 50 euro fine slapped on ya. luckily we got out of it. Wouldn't say the hotel it strict bout bringing people back to your room. a lot arent really bothered.
Overall i think was a really wicked holiday would recommend this as a place to go for young clubbers and who want a lively holiday.

Fioxenia apts are lovely. We had a one bed apt between 2 so there was loads of space. The apts were very clean and cleaner was in just about every day. They are in a nice location, very close to the beach, but are maybe a bit noisy if you're not looking for the young and lively type holiday experience!
Only probs came from first choice, not the filoxenia. Firstly, we requested a high floor and a quiet room, knowing that the pool area would be noisy during the day. Instead, we were put in a room on the ground floor, right next to the pool bar and right next to the sound system. Having gone on holiday to chill out, this was v frustrating! Secondly, the rep, was terrible! She completely ignored us for the entire holiday. Having been a rep myself I made a point of going to the welcome meeting, but she did not even make eye contact. She then competely ignored us every other time we saw her that week, even when we spoke to her!! I was absolutely horrified, and am so glad nothing ever went wrong, so we needed her assistance!

We booked the Filoxenia on the First Choice website which advertises it as a 3 star plus, it's actually a 2 star, if we'd known that we wouldnt have paid so much money. Accommodation is basic as you usually get in Greece but extremely noisy at night with doors banging, shouting, singing etc. We all booked at the same time and paid the same price but got completely different rooms so maybe good idea to check this out before you book. Would probably be a good holiday for groups of guys/girls/hen nights etc. Pubs are good but PR's are a complete nightmare. Really pushy and annoying.
San Giorgio in Malia Old Town is excellent for something to eat. The resort of Stalis is also good with a much less crowded beach, 7/8 euros by taxi. At Dwyers Irish Bar you can get a toastie, sunbed and umbrella for 4 euros. We actually preferred Stalis to Malia and ended up moving here after a few days.
I would only recommend the Filoxenia to heavy sleepers and party animals.

Malia is definately somewhere that i would return to. the resort was amazing with too many bars and clubs to get thru in 1 week. we found a few that we liked and returned to them. Cloud 9 is a great bar and its always a good laugh to do some pole dancing!it would be impossible to run out of things to do at night time.
During the day the pools in Filoxenia are great, Filox 2 being the lively one that we used, they play music and there is a bar. Filox 1 is much more relaxed. The beach is really close and offers loads of water sports, you can also buy a discount card which gets you free cocktails at one bar and fish bowl in another, also 20% off water sports.
Would defo recommened malia to anyone looking for a fun and lively(drunken) holiday.

Overall Hotel Rating:
We booked a last minute deal to Malia in September after a disaterous trip to the Dominican Republic in July.
What a brilliant holiday - I'm so glad Dom Rep was rubbish otherwise I would never have discovered the place.
Despite going in late Sept, traditionally when the season is winding down, Malia was still busy and had enough going on to keep you entertained both by day and night.
Apartments were exceptionally clean apart from an old and dirty duvet on top of the wardrobe - but who needs duvets with no air con and 82 degree heat?
Kitchen was basic, not sure you really could cook in there but still there are hundreds of cafes and eateries along the strip, which are relatively cheap, so no real need to cook.
Bathroom was also small but functional. Scarily it was full of mozzies!?! Had quite a few bites over the week but think we got them all in the end.
First Choice Rep, Laura, was fantastic -one of the best holiday reps I've ever met.
Staff at hotel are friendly, although sometimes stand-offish which I think is probably due to some of the ";badly behaved"; Brits holidaying there.
Greeks are lovely - friendly, helpful and always happy to see you. In fact the friendly locals really made the holiday!
Trips are good but expensive - anyone who is into history will enjoy the trip to Spinalonga which is an old leper colony.
Bars and pubs and clubs are endless and PRs are very pushy - to the point it is impossible to get past without going into their bar just to shut them up!
Perhaps the worst is the Aussie bloke working the Down Town Bar literally opposite the appartments - there's no escaping him.
Good food can be found at The Red Lion, The Royal Oak or The House - my personal; fave because it is so friendly.
All in all a fab holiday - worth every penny! Will be looking to go back again.

"Filoxenia Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We stopped in the Filoxenia in July 2004 and thought it was fab! The apartments were very small (we stopped in studios) so for 2 people they were ok but 3 people probably would have been a push! There was a double bed in 1 part of the room and a single bed next to the kitchen. altho very small they were VERY clean and the cleaners were brilliant! even tho our room was always messy they cleaned everything when most holidays the cleaners would just walk in and walk out!
They are very strict on security your not allowed to take anyone back to your apartments and if they catch you - which they will as they have CCTV cameras on every landing and all over the hotel you get charged 50 euros and if you get caught twice you get thrown out. VERY BAD if your on the pull but fine for us as we all had boyfriends back home and you really didnt need to even lock your doors at night it was that safe!
location cudnt have been better! right next to macdonalds right next to the strip right next to the beach and the hotel itself is a 24hour bar with another one just across the street! restaurants arent to great in malia. red lion which is english is the only 1 i recommend proper english food and you no what your getting! i lost a stone on holiday as the rest of the food was so bad!
the bar staff here are great and yiannis will prob go on the drink with you 1 night and get hammered! Would recommend this hotel to anyone whos out there for a drunken holiday and not going to be spending much time in the apartments! (altho nice and clean just very small)! Have fun if your going! xx
