If you are looking for a budget option then the Nicon is definitely a perfect choice.
Nick is a great guy who will go out of his way to ensure that you have a great holiday.
The rooms are ok and if you are looking for a lively night then the pool bar is the perfect option.

"Nicon Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
We had a great time. If you like smaller, more personal, family-run locations, then I don't think you'll be disappointed with Nicon Apartments. Spiros, Tina, Nikos and Costa seemed to me to genuinely want to ensure you had a good holiday, and would offer any advice to help you have the holiday you want. In the fortnight we were there, there was nothing that I could pick up on as being problematic.
It's one of the friendliest places we've ever stopped, and will certainly be back. If you have a family of teenagers, then I think they will enjoy being there. Likewise, it's a safe place for younger children.
The walk to Kos is about 20-30 minutes. No need to go there for meals, as there are many fine tavernas within easier walking distance. Blue Ocean was our personal favourite, but there were none of the ones we visited that I'd suggest avoiding.
First day there, we got a taxi into Kos - no problems, 6 euros. On the way back, it was a bit of a free-for-all as to who managed to get into the taxi first, regardless of who'd been waiting the longest. I can do without this crap, so whenever we went into Kos we walked - no great hassle (but watch out for cyclists!).
Finally, I only ever book any holiday on the basis of what I read here. We were very, very happy with Nicon Apartments.
The only very minor downside is that, because you need to pay extra for air conditioning at reception, if you arrive in the middle of the night as we did, your first night may be a hot and sticky one as reception closes at 11pm. In retrospect, no great hassle, but man was I sweating on the first night, and didn't want to risk open windows/doors in case of pesky mosquitoes...
Thumbs up from us!

1st time at nicon and what a fantastic holiday. the rooms where very clean and tidy, and the staff where just wonderful. they made us feel very very welcome, what ever we needed they went out of their way to help.
Nick and tolis in the bar at night time made sure you had a good time and laugh. we went to their greek night which was simple but very enjoyable, the two dancers got everybody up to dance.
nick and tolis took 9 quad bikers out for the day at no extra cost to them selves, great way to see all the island, even if I did come back with a big bruse on my bum haha.will go back next year for sure. even my partner asked me to marry him, must have had to many ";shots"; in the bar.
good place to eat was the blue ocean and europe next door,
went over to Turkey twice (very hot there) and a lot of waiting around for ferry and passport control but still a good day out. met a lovely couple Lauren and Chris and hopefully will keep in touch wiith them.

Overall Hotel Rating:
We went to Kos Town for a family wedding and to be honest I wouldn't have chosen Kos otherwise.
The town as said before is a fair walk from Nicon, we hired bikes which was good and cheap although get one with a light coz they don't like to put the street lights on for some reason. We didn't find the staff at Nicon very friendly, in fact quite the opposite ! Although as we had family staying nearby at a five star hotel we tended to use their pool etc. The pool was small and very cloudy - far too much chlorine, at the least the sunbed cushions were free. Air con was extra - but definitely necessary and the maid service was good - even if she did keep waking us up !
The set up with the safety deposit boxes was weird - they are in reception and you have one key, with the reception having another key, it didn't feel very secure. I've never come across this system before and I didn't feel like it was very safe - plus reception wasn't always open so you had to make sure you had enough cash in case they were closed. The apartment was clean, comfy and made do - we did not do any cooking tho it would've been very difficult on 2 rings.
All in all in was ok, not bad but not spectacular either - we won't go back. As for Kos I found it a bit run down looking, loads of litter, sad looking animals at the road sides - wasn't impressed !

Overall Hotel Rating:
Dear oh dear what a difference 2 years can make, 3rd time to kos and the nicon but what a let down, this year they seem to have switched from being friendly and keen to help to not wanting to know you unless you are spending money up the bar every night (a bit difficult to do when you have got a 10 month old who is teething). when we booked for the nicon we requested a quiet room as always but our room was not quiet the first week we were there we had a couple under us who was fighting all week and all hours and even ended up having a fight at 6 in the morning out side that left blood everywhere when we went to the rep they did nothing, the second week they put a family with teenagers in underneath us who came in drunk every night and started re-arranging furniture until at least 2-3 oclock in the morning by this time we gave up on sleep and brought a puzzle book to do whilst waiting for them to tire themselves out.
Kos itself is still as beautiful as ever and we will return there in time but we will not be staying at the nicon especially with the inflated prices thomson are charging for it.
If you are staying at the nicon good places to eat are the Blue Ocean (reasonably priced, fantastic views and very friendly), Mavromatis if you like your fish and Mummys cooking in kos town itself (just past the dolphin fountain). If you're after quick tasty and value for money then try Kostas grill house where one meal will easily feed 2 people.
If you are going to kos you will enjoy it and hopefully you will enjoy the nicon as it used to be a fantastic place for a holiday.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Rooms are very basic even for self catering, you only get a kettle and a 2 ring gas hob, you have to pay extra for use of air con, toasters and safety deposit boxes.
Cleaners were very good, came round every day, bit two far to Kos Town for us, so we hired a scotter. Bout 1/2 hour walk from Nicon to Kos Town. Bit quiet in resort, few resturants, no shops apart from two. Beach is shinged but not as bad as we thought, still quite nice, you just have to walk on a few sandbags to get out to the sea, not major problem unless you have walking problems.
Bit to quiet for us but maybe more busy in high season. Didnt find staff that friendly apart from Nickos behind the bar, but he was the only one really. Found reception quite unfriendly, we wont be going back as we like to try new places.
Pool area and bar food was quite nice, did karoke which i love (sadly there was a few bitchy people there who were a bit jealous towards me singing, which upset me abit, but you always get that) Meet loads of lovely friends Emily and Ed, Matt and Nat, Claire and Steven and Kelly and Dave. It was the people we met that made our holiday.

"Nicon Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
The apartments are spotless and the maids come in 6 days out of 7.
We had an apartment next to the pool. Not a good idea as there was noise until the early hours. The bar area is advertised as an ";English pub"; and goes out of the way to attract clients from the surrounding areas. If you are not keen on this ask for a quiet apartment. The staff are very helpful and friendly and the place is very well run.We hired a car via reception the price worked out at just under £200 for 5 days comparable to other car hire agencies. The car arrived without a hitch at 7.30pm the night before.
Thompson's brochure stated the apartments were 1.5 km from Kos Town. The reality is about 3km a good half hours walk along a very busy road but with stunning views. There is a bus every 15 minutes and the bus stop is very near.
On the roads are a variety of vehicles ranging from mopeheads, quad bikes, push bikes, buses and cars, so crossing the road can be difficult. On the pavement there are lots of cyclists who expect pedistrians to avoid them.
At the end of the road is the beach and at first appearance it looks a bit scruffy as there are parts that are just scrub land. However there are parts individually owned and they are spotless. We used Captains beach. Two sunbeads and a parasol are only 4 eruos. The sea is very, very clean and the snorkelling excellent. The best bit is the view across to Turkey,it is stunning. At the end of the road and to the right there are seven or eight beachside tavernas. They all sell standard Greek food and all seem to be of the same standard which I would say would be seven out of ten. They all have good views across to Turkey.
Kos Town is great. The harbour area is beatiful. Kos Old Town is atmospheric and well worth a visit particually at night. The shops sell the usual things but are very expensive.
We went to Paradise Beach and found it over rated. There is a self service cafe and we paid 3 euros for a bottle of water that cost 60 cents in the local supermarket. The beach was crowded and covered in cigarette butts. The sea was very shallow and the beach was sandy.A better bet for a safe sandy beach is Tigaki about a 15 minute car ride away.We visited Thermes very dramatic and accessable by bus,the number 5 runs hourly.
Other places worth a visit are Ayios Stefanos and Kefalos both about an hours drive away.We also went to the mountain village of Zia and found it beautiful. We went on a three island cruise we booked from the harbour costing 20 euros each to include lunch. We went on the Frederick as they was plenty of shade and an excellent sun deck. The captain let my daughter steer which was a lovely touch. There was snorkelling and the crew fed the fish. We also visited 2 islands. This was an excellent day out.
We booked to go to Turkey on market day.We were told to go to the port for 9.20am even though our boat left at 10.30am. The queuing system was a smambles. We were left to stand in the blazing sun for an hour and had toleave the queue as my daughter nearly fainted.By the time we got back tothe front we were told our boat was in Turkey and that the times on the tickets were not to be taken notice of. We got a refund and from speaking to other guests do not appear to have missed much.
I would recommend this holiday for teeagers but if I had younger children Iwould not want the noise, the busyroad or the local beach. Iwould look at Tigaki instead.

Excellent holiday, Nicos, Bledi and Tina certainly made the holiday for us by making us feel very welcome. The apartments were very clean
It's good to hire a car, we went all over the Island. Best beach was Marmari, long sandy beach with sea that felt like sitting in a warm bath.
Good eating places are Neo Syntravani in Psalidi and Jumbo Rrestaurant in Kos Town.
I can certainly understand why people come here year after year, it's excellent.

Overall Hotel Rating:
Stayed in the Nicon apartments for two weeks and could not believe how friedly the staff were. Nico, Bledi and Tina made our holiday one to remember.
Whilst there we went to the Karaoke night and also the Greek night which were both great.
The food at the apartments was really good although we did eat out a few times at the Europe bar that was great.
Only went to the Beach once but did go on a trip to Marino Beach which was beautiful.
All in all a great holiday and we will be going back again.
