"Tsambika Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Overall rating for Stegna was good - but very quiet. One road in ,down a very steep hill, limits your travel options if you don't hire a car. Apartments were fine,if a little basic, bedding changed on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We only saw the owner once, on the first day when he checked passports.Location is ok ,down a short, steep incline to a largely sandy beach. Water still very cold in May. If you are a late riser, expect to be woken by energetic Germans in hotel next door - exercising to 'Good morning Good morning' at precisely 10.00am every morning.
We hired a brand new Suzuki Jiminy for 5 days for 170 Euros (be prepared to negotiate)particularly when they are so quite. We only ate twice in Stegna (Stegna Star is close by and food ok)choice was a little limited, and lacking in variation.
Mini markts provide basics for self catering breakfasts, although there is no bakery in Stegna (great opportunity for person with the right experience!).
We covered almost every resort and tourist feature on the island (allow a full day to drive around the island). Highlights were Lindos - don't miss the view at OOOOH AAAAH.... corner - truly stunning at day or night. Lindos is wonderful - if a little commercialised, and a visit to the Acropolis is well worth the effort of climbing all those steps.A drink in the cool atmosphere of the original Captains bar on the way down is time well spent. The Rainbird bar offers stunning views of the bay,and snacks are availab;le.Spent a day in Pefkos which seemed a nice resort, with some pleasant bars and tavernas - ate at a very good Chinese meal on the main road (we were getting tired of the Greek salads and mousakka).
Worth a trip to the bottom of the island to see where the Aegean meets the Med. Stand with a foot in both seas - a weird experience.Rhodes old town is stunning, although a little short on parking spaces. A walk to the top of the bell tower is a rewarding, but tiring experience. Prices in the old town were very expensive. Managed to avoid Faliraki, although people were saying it's not what it was - good or bad?
Our favourite beach was the Tsambika, great sand and very calm shallow water. If your're feeling energetic climb the 300 steps to the Tsambika monastery, and be rewarded with stunning views.Overall Stegna was ok,but a little quite, even for us old fogies. It provides a good central base,if you hire a car,and want to see the island.
Final tip - visit the bakery in Archangelos (on left as you enter village from Stegna)the most amazing choice of cakes and pastries.!!!

"Tsambika Apartments review"
Overall Hotel Rating:
Stegna is a very quiet resort and although we went towards the end of the season, I would have thought it is quiet most of the year. The Beach is OK and 2 beds/Brolly was a reasonable 4 euro. There were some water sports facilities, although generally the resort was getting ready to close down for end of season. I'm sure during peak periods there would be more. Having said that it didn't strike me as an ideal resort for teenagers.
The resort consists, in the main, of one road which is a dead end. The approach is via a rather steep hill, with excellent views. There are a number of restaurants to choose from and I spotted 3 mini markets. There was also The Matrix Club, which wasn't open during our stay, but perhaps that has a bit of life during main season. We were told there are 2 buses a day, from the resort, but weren't given assurances they are reliable. There are of course many trips, to all main venues via your rep. Stegna is an ideal choice for those who just like to unwind and relax, or those who don't mind where their base is and plan to hire a car. We hired a car from Dimitra Cars, a 5 dr Punta was 108 euros for 4 days. Manos wanted 237 euros for same period, although they assured me their insurance really was fully comp.
Tsampika Apartments were located almost at the very end of the resort, but even a slow stroll got you to the other end in 15 mins. We found them very clean, quiet, and although up a bit of an incline, easily accessible and a sea view. There is no main Reception and the owner used to turn up once a day to water the flowers and make sure everything was OK. The rooms had phones, so had there been a problem he was contactable. There was air con, but at 40 euros a week we thought it a bit steep. The rooms were 28deg at night, which was a little uncomfortable and I may have reconsidered the air con had we visitied earlier in the season. I believe fans and television could have been hired if required.
For eating out we liked Knights Castle restaurant the best, and as fate does these things, it was the furthest restaurant from us, in fact the last place before the big mountain climb out of the resort. Knights Castle cocktails are also cheaper than other bars mentioned in some earlier reviews.
If driving out - recommendations to see would be Lindos - (excellent meals in evening and a blue flag beach). Rhodes old town - white bay parking is free, blue is metered. Seven Springs, inland. A novelty of the visit is walking down a long tunnel just over body width and height, pitch black in about 4/5"; of cool running water. As long as I convinced myself there wouldn't be any rats I was OK - and tried not to think about it too much. A footpath returns you to the centre.Tsampika Beach is very nice (next bay to Stegna). Not as many rocks as Stegna and better sand. Not much there other than some beach bars - a sun, swim and relaxing day, with water sports for the more energetic. At the end of this bay there is a road leading to Tsambika Panorama and Restaurant- worth a visit - be prepared for 300 steps near the top but spectacular views make it worth while. There is a small chapel at the top, which has a quaint story behind it. Suffice it to say for someone trying fertility treatment - this trip could answer your problems - so local myth has it anyway.
All in all we enjoyed our week in Stegna. No complaints at all about the accomm.
