It's a small, charming New Zealand countryside seaside resort with beaches and glow-worms, small and not a place to go if you're after pounding night-clubs and such.

Wellington is a great city - it has more cafes per head of population than any city in teh world. It is based on the coast so has some good beaches and seal colonies that you can go and see. There are good shops - althought the exchange rate is currently very painful for the pound so shopping was something we avoided.
There are good cafes everywhere and lots of good food and wine. If you want to go over the hills about an hour drive away you are in Martinborough wine region. This is really worth a visit.
dont miss Te Papa museum - a must for any visitor.

Apart from being a student town Dunedin is the hopping off point for the bottom of the South Island of New Zealand. It has a good brewery tour at the Speights brewerey (leave the car at home and get stuck in to the tastings!). It has great night life and now has the added attraction of the "greenhouse" rugby stadium - the first permenantly roofed rugby stadium in the world. If you want to go further afield dont miss the penguins on the Otago peninsula!

One of Aucklands big malls, St Lukes is probably the most established, having been around in various forms for many many years, it now includes a movie theatre, bars, restaurants, FoodTown supermarket, K mart, and all the major clothing labels, plus some only found in St Lukes. If you are into shopping and its raining, you could do worse than a few hours mooching about in the mall. It has a massive carpark (much needed because it can get very busy) There is also a library next door and a football field.

I did my first tandem Skydive with the girls and guys at Skydive Wanaka last week and I'd recommend it to anyone! The crew at SW were brilliant and it is a really relaxed atmoshpere yet professional all the way. There was never any concerns about safety. Both of my mates were super nervous and one was scared of heights but they were made to feel so relaxed and enjoyed the complete experience totally. We did the 15,000 foot jump and had a picture postcard day, not a cloud in the sky and the views are amazing of the alps and the lakes and valleys. The media pack is awesome too, I was so buzzed after the jump that it was all a bit of a blur, but getting to watch it soon after on my DVD with 2 different camera angles was awesome, it brought it all back to me in an instant, and showing my mates at home just brings the thrill back every time....such a laugh!!! If you do a skydive in NZ, make sure its with Skydive Wanaka (and no, i don't work for them..haha). Cheers guys!!!

Its a beautiful town....so laidback and loads of things to do, from watersports, mountain trekking, luging (riding down the mounting on little bob sleigh things..great fun), countless bungee jumps or you could even just relax in the many restaurants. It was so good...my sister even stayed for another 6 months!! The weather was gorgeous when i was there...really warm...but its also a brilliant skiing resort when the weather changes. Also...DEFINITELY have a Fergburger, by far, the best gourmet burger i have tasted!!

Auckland review
"Its ok, but depends on preference"
resort to a friend
I'm gonna say it Auckland is not for every one... It is more of a stepping stone to the rest of New Zealand (Rotorua and Queenstown are the best places to visit). Don't get me wrong though, it is a really pretty city, people are really nice and it is a great place to live...but if you are into the materialistic sort of holiday eg. shopping, theme parks then you are going to be dissapointed. I wouldnt reccomend coming to New Zealand at all if you are this kind of traveller.
Auckland is more for people who enjoy walking around the nice beaches, parks and having a good meal at the end of the day, and suites the more outdoorsy sort of person. Auckland also has a really good vibe and dosnt feel sterile and man made like Sydney and other big cities.
Places I highly reccomend visiting 1. Piha or Muriwai Beach (especially if you have never seen black sand beaches before). 2. Devonport 3. Sky Tower 4. Museum (fairly good standard, good if you wanna see some maori culture) 5. Waiheke island (infact any of the island in the area are good) 6. Spookers haunted theme park
Things To Avoid 1. Spring (as it is the rainy season) 2. Rainbows End theme park (over priced plus it is no disney land) 3. K' Road (Red Light district of Auckland)

Auckland is the gateway to new zealand and I was not expecting new zealand to have such a modern and vibrant city. If you know where your going you can have the best night out. Its also really safe. There upgrading the main road in the CBD at the moment called queen street so that causes some delays but it promises to look outstanding once finished wih beautiful palms. Its constantly getting better as is the water front which is getting a HUGE overhaul and being given a extreme makeover. Theres also a free bus to take you around the city and a cheap bus service to the burbs. Also contray to what you hear new zealanders are really welcoming to americans.I had a wonderful in my 3 days in auckland and 1week in the rest of new zealand. p.s Be sure to check out britomart train station (wow) and do the sky tower and harbour bridge jump

so much to see and do! bit smelly from the sulphur but you get used to it! Rather than pay to see the mud pools go to the local park they have set it up really nice! Go on the Luge and also go see a Kiwi in fairy springs sanctuary

Nelson is a must see while you are in the South Island of New Zealand. It is a friendly hippy town where you can do such activities as bone carving (making your own maori jewellery), wine tasting and sampling the many lovely food and drink outlets in the town.
There is beautiful scenery and beaches and plenty of farms and vineyards if you like to get outside and explore. The people are friendly and welcoming - some of the local bars gave me some brilliant nights out!
it is also a jumping off point for the famous Abel Tasman National Park - one to be walked or sea kayaked if you can.

Wellington rocks - it is a cool compact capital city with everything from cafes to museums to great beaches with seal colonies. The city is easily walkable due to being on the water and surrounded by mountains which makes it very accessible - although it does get very windy so you may get blown over.
THere are more cafes per head of population than anywhere else in the world which is great. Lots of yummy coffees and cakes to try. Also great variety of restaurants and bars and nightclubs too should you want to party, overall one of my favourite cities.
