Sete Cidades is a beautiful place in which vegetation and water mix themselves with a glowing light like if it was a Divine place. There are spots where you can be really near water in the middle of trees, listening to nothing more than small waves going for the brunches. Try also Miradouro do Canario

Furnas is an area of volcanic activity and general natural beauty in the centre of Sao Miguel. Like the rest of the island, it's surprisingly uncommercialised. There is an impressive array of geysers and hot springs, including bubbling mud pools and some really large, churning pools of water. Having visited Iceland, I didn't expect to be impressed here, but this expectation was proved wrong.
The area is located inside a volcanic crater, but you could be fooled by the verdant greenery of the surroundings. Terra Nostra gardens are very pretty, full of unusal plants and well worth visiting. There is a warm outdoor volcanic pool which can be swum in, but be warned - the orangey brown volcanic water will stain you and your bathing gear an unglamourous rusty colour that takes several washes to shift and turns your bath towels the colour of fake tan.

Ponta Delgada review
"Beautiful Island away from it all"
resort to a friend
Ponta Delgada is the main city in the island of Sao Miguel and the capital of the Azores. It boasts a lovely city centre with several historic buildings all within walking distance. The main square facing the ocean and the cathedral are two jewels. Walking in Ponta Delgada is actually not a very pleasant experience due to the lack of proper pavements and cars driving very fast; especially at night we did not feel particularly safe. The city has a nice promenade and offers several fish restaurants at very reasonable prices. But the main thing about Ponta Delgada is that it is centrally located in the Island of Sao Miguel and thus the ideal base for exploring its beauties. I strongly recommend renting a car, and visiting places such as Setes Citades, Lagoa de Fogo, Furnas with its fumaroles and the Terra Nostra park, the pineapple plantations near P.ta Delgada and tea plantations in the north, and several less known spots such as Caldeiras, Monsteiros and others. The drive from Pta Delgada to the Lagoa de Setes Citades via the smaller lakes is stunning, as is the coastline around Villa Franca do Campo. The weather is very changeable, it rains very often but never for long. The nature and landscapes are simply magical. We visited in late June and none of the main attractions were crowded.

You cannot miss the marina, it is so huge with all the million dollar boats that travel fromm over the world and stay for a few days there. part of the folk lore is that you cannot visit without leaving you sogn on the cement walkways and walls that surround the marina, when we vivited there last week the marina was jumping, most of the sailors that were enjoying their stay on land were as friendly as anyone you would find anywhere and the locals wer also terrific!

Greenzone Azores: What can I say? Breathtaking sceneries, unique nature, friendly people and not spoiled by tourism. Very beautiful and laid back place very much worth to visit at least once. Weather can be unpredictable but it's never too cold or too hot. Friendly showers will be followed by sunshine every time. Be sure to visit Sete Cidates - the twinlakes, Furnas hotsprings and Lagoa do Fogo. Ponta Delgada is the capital and is very laid back without big tourist masses. Not a very friendly place for handicapped or strollers. Sidewalks are very narrow and cars are parked everywhere. Nothing you can handle but let you be warned. There are plenty of restaurants or choose from but those could be hard to find. A fancy new shopping center is a nice surprise. It's got everything what a needy tourist would want.

The Azores is a great place to see an island before being spoilt by tourists, so much too see and explore from the hot springs to the volcano lakes.
For the best meals of an evening go to the marina and at the end of the marina must be the best restaraunt in Ponta Delgado the "Colmeia" which for a two course meal with a decent bottle of wine for two works out under £50
