The hotel was average and some of the staff were not very welcoming. The rooms were suitable for our beach holiday, cheap and cheerful! The main criticism was the poolside was always crowded therefore we could not stay at the hotel we had to go to the beach everyday, and also on the first day we arrived, (at 10:30), we could not rest in our rooms until after 2pm and we were all very tired.

RECEPTION. very claean and friendly staff. ROOM. Clean and great views. we were on the 9th floor in B BLOCK. SEA VIEWS EXCELLENT. RESTAURANT.lovely variety. staff grumpy old men. greeting staff friendly. food not always hot. Entertainment. Pants! 1 hour in the evning. not what I would expect from 4*.Maybe later in the season you would get more??? What they showed was goodish. DRINKS....PRICES ...All i will say is Dick Turpin. no i will say more... Lemonade and lime cost.....3.90 euros. half a lager 2.50 euros. Staff where grumpy probably same ones as in restaurant. LOCATION. BRILLIANT. RIGHT ON THE ESPLANADE.We laid on the sunbeds and watched the sea roll in and people bargaining with the Bag boys. POOLS. 2. one was advertised as heated during the colder weather...well i can tell you IT WAS NOT. I booked this because we like to swim in the pools and that was a BIG disappintment for us. my daughter and husband never went in..well to be honest hardly anyone did. But I did. The weather was lovely for April. people had said that it had been raining and very dismal...so at least we were in Luck.

This is a very good hotel. It is right on the promenade along the beach, and has a fantastic pool. The rooms are large, comfortable and air conditioned. There is a wide range of activities on offer during the day, and local entertainment at night. The food selection at breakfast and lunch is superb, a wide range of cakes, ice creams for dessert. It is only a few minutes walk to the smart marina at Benalmadena, and it is quiet at night.

Booked this hotel direct through Alpharooms and was attracted by the fact it was a Sol hotel, as we've stayed in a few of them before with no problems. The rooms all have a seperate bedroom which is great for privacy if you're travelling with children and the furniture and linens were of high quality. Rooms and public areas were kept very clean and tidy. Only problem was the grumpy older porter who was a bit unhelpful.
The situation is fantastic - just on the beachfront and a couple of minutes walk from the marina. In the other direction are the chiringuitos (beach bar/restaurants) serving delicious fresh fish and seafood and the resort of Torremolinos (10 mins).
The pool area around the hotel is lovely, but the beaches here are definitely some of the best in Europe.
The best thing about this resort is that there is so much to do. The marina has shops and restaurants, a great Sea-Life Centre and numerous boat trips, for either fishing, dolphin-spotting or sunbathing. Tivoli World, up the road at at Arroyo de la Miel, is a small theme park, mostly for kids, beautifully designed but staffed by sullen teenagers with attitude. We even saw two of them with cigarettes dangling from their mouths as they ushered my daughter on to rides!
The nearby mountain village of Mijas is breathtakingly beautiful, and Nerja and Ronda are also well worth a visit. There's a carting track and a quad bike company in Mijas Costa and all the usual watersports on the beach in front of the hotel.
You can also take a day trip to Gibraltar - take the full day one which includes the caves (amazing) and the famous apes. The tax-free jewellery in Gib is fantastic, too, ladies!

We had a lovely holiday here, despite four days of constant rain and would recommend the Sol Aloha Puerto and Benalmadena to anyone. One word of caution - we've been here 6 times over the years but always in either May, June or October. From what I've heard from locals, it can be a very different place in high season, more 'lager lout' than family holiday.
