Had a great holiday. Apartments were clean and well equipped although we couldn't get the washing machine to work. Air conditioning was a godsend after a day on the beach or shopping. The Pool area was clean but there are no sunbeds, we bought straw mats and sunbathed on the grass which surrounds the pool.Found the lady on reception was very helpful with directions and booking a taxi for return trip(they have a regular taxi driver who is a lot cheaper than the regular taxis(65 euros). Balcon de Europe area is very nice with lots of tapas bars although Tutti Frutti square will be a lot better when the paving is finished.Burinna beach is nice and clean although the road is quite steep to get down to it, we used to walk down and call in H2O(a bar at the side of the beach )on the way back and get a taxi back up(6euros).

I wasn't looking forward to the holiday after reading some of the reviews but would definitely go back again.

Just returned from a short 5 day break in Nerja in the Costa del Sol,which was booked with the accomidation from Holiday brokers and the flight with Monarch.

Having visted Nerja and stayed at the Verano Azul before about 4 years ago and having no complaints then we thought we would try it again,BIG MISTAKE! The reception which used to be open 24 hours is now only open Mon-Fri from 9am-2pm and then from 5pm-7pm (but in actual fact was only open from 10am-1pm and 5.30pm-7pm ish)We arrived on Sunday morning and had to collect our keys from the Nerja club which is about 500 meters further up the hill, not a problem for us as we had a car but a very steep walk if you havent.

The apartment itself was ok but when we enquired about cleaning and clean towels we got told the apartment gets cleaned weekly so the towels you get when you arrived and the toilet roll have to have a lot of use! If you need a safe deposit box you can rent one but it is in reception so you can only get to it when reception is open as is the luggage room. The 2 receptionist seemed more interested in their make up than the guests.I would not stay here or recommend this accomadation to anyone. The resort of Nerja is great, lots to do,laidback and well worth a visit with lots of better places to stay,

Just one other quick note on the Verano Azul,it used to have a security guard who patrolled the grounds but he is no more so the local teenagers now take over the swimming pools for a couple of hours after school finishes.

What a horrible accommodation these are. The reception was hardly open, and the staff were really unpleasant. We had a major problem with ants and noise and had no confidence in are rep, in fact we felt really vulnerable. Please think twice before booking here.

Most comments above agreed with:

Nerja - a beautiful resort, largely unspoiled by 'high-rise hotel architecture', offering most all want. Definitely superior to the rest of the del Sol.

Verano Azul apartments - We booked a private apartment direct. It was excellent in every respect. The main road was never noisy at all (in October) and our bedroom faced the back anyway (maybe a point to check).
We thus never even tried to find the maligned on-site restaurant, the town's restaurants being excellent in choice, quality and price.

The description on which we booked did not do the complex any justice - it is charmingly constructed on a Andalucian/Moorish village street plan and architecture, with profuse tropical vegetation throughout.

It IS a distictly uphill trudge back from the Burriana beach (although the routes to the town and other beaches are OK in this respect). We're an average 60's couple and found it annoying rather than a real effort. Nevertheless, it did put us off going to the otherwise great Burriana beach restaurants too often! Our booking site's description of ";10 minutes to beach and town"; with no mention of slopes was distictly misleading, and we have told them so.

We would almost certainly return to Nerja (and we rarely return anywhere, preferring new scenes each time). But we might locate a more convenient location, despite the Verano's excellence intrinsically.

This was our first holiday to Nerja and we were amazed we hadn't found this jewel before. We usually go to Benalmadena but we will definitely be back to Nerja.

I booked the accomodation off the internet and flights likewise.Although a taxi from Malaga is 60 euros we got transported by the guy who maintains the apartments for 45 euros each way.You can get a bus to Malaga and then another to Nerja for about 10 euros but it takes forever so I am told. Our apartment is owned by an English couple so arranging the holiday was simple. The apartment by the way was excellent, complete with a full Sky package and all mod cons. Our apartment faced the main road and except for the boy racers on 50cc mopeds the noise was neglible.Burriana beach is well worth a visit(downhill) but get a cab back as it is steep.

The town of Nerja really suprised and pleased us as it still maintains its Spanish charm and caters for tourists also. There are literally hundreds of bars and restaurants in the town centre and all of the ones we visited made us very welcome.
Walked up to the caves one day but as the wife was not to fond once inside we came out and had a drink over the road - what views from the terrace.
Fragliana is a must to visit,it is only 2/3 Km from town and you will find this village absolutely breathtaking.I am told the village of Torrox is equally beautiful. We never found the bar/restaurnt on the complex but readig other reviews found that they do exist.

We will definitely go back to Nerja and probably to the same apartments.
