"Dirty"

Overall Resort Rating:

Poor

Open quote

In my opinion the resort of Hammamet is rather unclean. wherever you walk you get mithered by shop owners trying to get you into their shops to buy things you don,t want. The streets are mainly dusty with rubbish just left lying about, & in the markets I didn,t feel particularly safe.

We never left the holiday village, we never had too! to be fair outside of the hotel didn't look the best and everything that interested us as a family was catered for by the hotel, so unfortunately i can't really comment on Hammamet as a resort sorry

"Lovely Resort"

Overall Resort Rating:

Very Good

As we were all inclusive in a holiday village, we never ate out anywhere, and to be honest in this area there wasn't really anywhere to go. A few nice cafes noticed whilst we were out of the resort. The beach was lovely, very clear sea and tidy beach. Few excursions available although we never did any as only there a week. If you are looking to just go to a resort and not see any of the country then this is your place, Tunisia looks lovely and we would go back, but this hotel does sit out of the way and there isn't anything around it of any interest really. A bonus was that the local market came into the hotel every Monday and it had its own spa/hairdresser and little shop on site.

"It was ok."

Shopping was good but be prepared to be hassled BIG TIME! Bartering is a must and I actually got really good at it. If you stick to the fixed price shops you're ok. If you go to other shops they will not leave you alone and will even chase you down the road! However, most of the people are friendly and willing to help. There are plenty of taxis to get you around if its too hot to walk.

It was a dump very poor fed up of locals asking u for money. And trying to drag u into their shops. I didn't eat out as everywhere looked dirty and really poor kids in street nagging u to by flowers . Terrible smell , horse driven carriage avoid the smell was terrible made me feel sick . However did go on a trib organized by firstchoice Zulu day that was great kids loved it and it broke the week up. I can't say I would come back to Tunisia to sight see but possible come for a week in a five star hotel for a week of sunshine as the weather was fantastic

Unable to comment - stayed in hotel complex due to the holiday being one week only. Plenty of choice of things to do - offered from reps in the welcome meetings.

Taxis are really cheap but if you want a hairraising ride with a laugh you have to go on a tuktuk we were in hysterics as our driver was going all over the place making us sway everywhere. there is an english steak house at the medina that worked out at about ten pound for sirloin steak and a drink, or round the corner from the steakhouse you could get a pannini chips and a drink for about three pound. there are lots of trips you can do through the first choice rep, and its only about a ten minute walk to the shops and half an hour to the medina. Didnt really leave the camp to go to any nite life but did see a couple of niteclubs. Only down side is although the beach was cleaned everyday there was lots of waste floating in the sea which was abit off putting if you wanted a dip.

Thought it was dirty, as soon as you step out of the hotel. Very hot too, got to 45 degrees in early July. People are quite pushy and can be rude if you refuse to buy from them. Taxis are cheap and reliable.

"Stay near your resort at night"

Overall Resort Rating:

Excellent

Open quote

Go out and see Hammamet or Nabeul during the day.... do not venture too far walking at night.... It gets dark really quick about 7pm (it's as if a light gets switched off) and on way back from coffee shop I got followed all the way down a dark road by a Tunisian guy wanting to take me out for a drink (I had my daughter with me, I wasn't on my own)..... We weren't too far from resort so it was a quick march walk quicker and once you're in resort gates you totally safe. They are just quite forward, I'm not saying the guy was going to attack me or anything but, it creeped me out a bit... The orangina across the road does the best burgers and strawberry milkshakes (if you get sick of pizza and chips at the poolside bar and the rice and pasta dishes in restaurant). Only 14 dinar it was for 2 of us. Barbara's shop across the road from Khayam is fixed price with no haggling, they leave you to browse - it's great. Obviously do the walk round shops and haggle (they do hassle you to come into shop but not physically and are fine when you say no and walk on) as an experience.
